This project involved the complete conversion of an existing stable building into a high-quality one-bedroom Airbnb, set within the grounds of a Grade II listed historic property in a picturesque Monmouthshire village.Working within both a conservation area and the setting of a listed building, the scheme required careful planning, attention to detail, and close collaboration with specialist consultants. The completed accommodation provides a characterful yet contemporary retreat, comprisingan open-plan kitchen, dining and living area with a woodburning stove, a spacious double bedroom, and a beautifully finished bathroom.A significant aspect of the project was the ecological enhancement works associated with the existing bat maternity roost located within the roof space. The entire roof was dismantled and reconstructed, incorporating specialist bat-friendly membranes and detailing throughout. A dedicated "hot box" loft habitat was created to provide optimal conditions for the maternity roost, ensuring the long-term protection of the bat population. Externally, extensive landscaping and infrastructure improvements were undertaken. A new pedestrian pathway was constructed using traditional Cotswold stone, providing an attractive approach to the accommodation, whilst the entire driveway serving the property was resurfaced in matching Cotswold stone to enhance the overall setting. New drainage infrastructure was installed, including a pumped foul drainage system designed to accommodate the site's constraints and ensure reliable long-term performance.To preserve the character of the site and satisfy planning and conservation requirements, bespoke mahogany windows and doors were designed, manufactured and installed throughout the building. These handcrafted elements complement the historic setting whilst delivering modern standards of performance and security.Throughout the project, we worked closely with the client to refine the internal layout, finishes, fixtures and furnishings, ensuring the completed accommodation reflected their vision and created a welcoming, high-quality guest experience.This project demonstrates our expertise in heritage and conservation-led construction, ecological compliance, bespoke joinery, drainage solutions, and the sensitive conversion of traditional buildings into exceptional modern accommodation.
